Richard Mason

Richard Mason

Co-founder and Strategy Director

Richard Mason was six when he started writing his first book. He was 21 when his first novel was published – The Drowning People, which sold more than a million copies in 28 languages and won Italy’s Cavour Prize for Best First Novel. He founded Orson & Co because he was tired of gimmicky book apps. He wanted to harness the power of touchscreens in the service of the greatest rendering engine we know: the human brain. Mason has written four other novels – Us, The Lighted Rooms, History of a Pleasure Seeker and Who Killed Piet Barol? His first start-up was a charity he co-founded with Archbishop Desmond Tutu – the Kay Mason Foundation (www.kmf.org.za) to identify and care for the next generation of Africa’s leaders.
